Superior officials celebrate Arbor Day
Students in Superior are making their college campus a little greener.
They held a tree planting ceremony at University of Wisconsin Superior to mark the 40th anniversary of the Arbor Day foundation’s tree city USA program.
The goal of the program is to be effective with urban forest management.
There were 20 fifth grade students there to plant the trees and be a part of the program.
There are 113 ash trees on campus and so far, 40 have been cut down because of an emerald ash borer infestation in the city.
“It is still really hard to see them come down so that’s why we want to get planting as soon as possible. It’s a really good time to get them in and let everyone know we’re rebuilding the population on campus,” said Dusty Johnson, Director of Facilities.
Event organizers added that trees bring numerous economic, social and environmental benefits to our area.
