Many come out for the Wisconsin fishing opener
Many went out with hopes of reeling in a big one today in the Wisconsin Fishing Opener.
Governor Scott Walker kicked off Wisconsin’s fishing season at the 51st annual governor’s fishing opener.
Anglers from across the state came out to fish the Minong flowage with the governor and many other bodies of water across Wisconsin.
Craig Roberts, with the Wisconsin DNR, said “That’s the great thing about this part of the state, you can fish rivers, lakes and trout streams. You have a little bit of everything for whatever you’d like to fish for.”
Fishing is a 2.3 billion dollar industry in Wisconsin and is one of the state’s most important sources of tourism.
Scott Walker, Governor of Wisconsin, said “People come in every year, just as they do for hunting. It really drives up the economy in places like this and we’re hoping this year will be a perfect year.”
This year’s fishing season is open through march 5th 2017.
