Skibo Fire now 57 Percent Contained

Fire crews have made significant progress in battling a wildfire near Hoyt Lakes. 

The Skibo Fire is now 57 percent contained, up from 21 percent on Monday. 

The Minnesota Incident Command System says there was little active fir activity overnight. 

Authorities say several hot spots remain, and helicopters will continue to make water drops.

Crews will continue to strengthen containment lines and mop-up 100 feet toward the center of the fire. 

Structure protection is a continued focus for those battling the blaze. 

There are 217 firefighters from 12 states working to put out the fire.

The Skibo Fire started around 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 6 just north of St. Louis County Highway 110, two miles east of Hoyt Lakes. 

The fire has burned an estimated 1,000 acres. 

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
