Students Study Abroad to Cuba

St. Scholastica Students Get a Rare Opportunity

As Cuba and U.S. relations are improving, some Duluth students are getting a chance to travel to the country and get a first-hand look at how Cuba operates.

Thirteen students from St. Scholastica traveled to the country last month as part of a study abroad capstone.

They experienced the economy, healthcare and political systems there and documented their experience.

“As president Obama said, he wants to start diplomatic relations with Cuba again,” said student Drew Jensen. “It felt like the perfect time to see where Cuba is now and what the potential for the country is in the future.”

Students say the people in Cuba were very friendly and welcoming, but the country does seem to be behind in terms of infrastructure and technology.
