Cloquet Plans Veterans Memorial Wall

City in the Planning Stages of Creating Memorial

One area Community is planning a big addition to one of it’s parks.

A new Memorial Wall is still in the planning stages for Veteran’s Park in Cloquet, but it’s finally starting to take shape.

The new Veteran’s Memorial Wall is part of the larger Riverfront Project in Cloquet. The Wall is funded through the half cent sales tax that voters in Cloquet approved back in 2011.

After the last City Council meeting, council member had the chance to see what the finished project would look like when all is said and done. For Council Member Jeff Rock, the etchings truly represent the struggles and triumph those serving our country showcase every day.

“It’s a way of honoring the veterans and the sacrifices that they make. The men and women in uniform pay the price for our freedoms and most of us are awarded the opportunity to take our freedoms for granted. It’s kind of a way of honoring the veterans and all they sacrifice,” said Rock.

This week, the City Council will vote to send the project out for bids.

“When it’s all done, this is going to be an absolute gem for Cloquet, and hopefully draw people from all around to come see it,” said Rock.

City officials tell FOX 21 the project is set to be completed by the end of August. The wall will be 50 feet long, and stand nearly 10 feet tall.
