Nearly One Year Since Sunday Growler Sales Law Change

Local Business Says Not Much Has Changed

The summer’s tourism season marks one year since breweries have been allowed to sell growlers on Sundays.

Minnesota law had previously banned Sunday growler sales. Lawmakers voted about a year ago to leave the decision up to local cities.

The Duluth City Council voted to support businesses wanting to sell on Sundays.

Fox 21 spoke with staff at Fitgers Brewhouse about the change one year later.

Employees say not much has changed, they believe the law didn’t do much to fix what they believe is a broken alcohol sales law in Minnesota.

“This law about sales on Sunday sort of is giving brew pubs they’re due,” said bartender Michael Novitzki. “They’re leveling the playing field, but it seems like a temporary fix to a larger problem that shouldn’t exist in the first place.”

Staff at Fitgers says they currently sell more growlers on Fridays and Saturdays than on Sundays.
