Knowing Your Neighbors: Art’s Cafe
Cafe serves up just about everything, including great conversation.
Art’s Cafe has been in Moose Lake since 1931. They have served up meals that can’t be beat and conversation that’s even better for 85 years.
Some in Moose Lake come to Art’s Cafe at least twice a day.
“It’s all good food. Otherwise we wouldn’t stop here, said customer Tony Jusczak.
Art’s Cafe became a stopping point all they way back in 1931 when it was known as Dix Cafe.
“I’ve heard lots of stories from all around the country,” said owner Cheryl Fitzgerald.
Truckers would stop in for a break from the road and sometimes would never want to leave.
“It’s just good food, reasonable prices and you get a lot for your money and we meet friends. You walk in you look around and it’s not like your big restaurants, friendly people,” said customer Gary Harley.
While you can enjoy the masterpieces on each plate, Art’s Cafe has plenty of art all around with murals on the walls and a little bit more. Customers add their own pieces every year.
“I’ll come in the morning and I’ll find and be like where did that come from,” said Fitzgerald.
Diners enjoy hot beef and turkey sandwiches along with specialties that the cooks have made all their own. Many order “what she’s having”.
“I was having a weird craving for everything one day and so I put our Fit’s sandwich which is just an egg with cheese and a meat choice and I made it with bacon practically and I put it inside of our biscuit, buttermilk biscuit and put hashbrowns over it and a crapload of gravy over everything,” said Megan Fitzgerald Clark, creator of the “what she’s having.”
85 years of good eats and even better memories.
“Forty–eight cents for a cup of coffee. I don’t think there’s any place else in the country that you can get that,” said Jusczak.
Art’s Cafe will celebrate their 85th birthday with many 85 cent specials all year long. They will also have customer appreciation events in August and September.
