Hermantown officers assist St. Louis County Sheriff's Dept. in pursuit

In the early Tuesday morning hours, Hermantown Officers were requested to assist the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department in locating a vehicle leaving the area of Munger Shaw Road traveling south on Hwy 53 towards Pike Lake.

A Hermantown officer near Miller Trunk Highway and Highway 194 was observing traffic flow from the north and spotted a car traveling at 117 mph south bound on Miller Trunk Highway.

The officer turned on the emergency lights of his squad car in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but it continued past his location and failed to stop when officers pursued behind him with lights and sirens.

The officer lost sight of the suspect vehicle for a short time near Miller Trunk Highway and Anderson Road. Upon arrival at the intersection, the officer noted the car had crashed into a cement/rock outcropping and had started on fire near 300 Central Entrance.

Officers extinguished the flames and pulled the occupants from the vehicle. Duluth Police and Fire arrived to continue the extrication of the remaining occupants.

Four males were transported to Essentia Health with various injuries.

During examination of the vehicle, officers located firearms, shell casings, and narcotics.

The investigation is on-going at this time.
