Island Lake Community Members Repair Damage From Storm

Businesses are Closed because of Storm Damages

In Island Lake, community members are working to repair what the storm has damaged. Power poles were knocked down, houses were moved from their foundation and trees all around were knocked over.

This chaos causing quite a scare for locals.

Laura Beron, the Manager at an Island Lake Convenient Store, said “My husband went up earlier and there is pines on the power lines and they are smoking and there is damage everywhere.”

Not only are community members repairing their homes, nearby businesses are either closed or only accepting cash because none of their computers are working because of the power outages.

Beron said, “I have the doors locked but when I see people come, I help. We take cash because we cant use credit cards or do anything.”

The storm hit very early in the morning. It happened fast with heavy rain and strong winds.

Anders Saska, a resident of Island Lake, said “It was loud and the lightening was bright so it kept me up all night.”

For now, the community works hard to rebuild and it is a process that wont be finished anytime soon.
