New Medical Cannabis Dispensary Opens in Hibbing

Little Girl Using Medical Cannabis to Treat Seizures

Amelia Weaver has Dravet Syndrome, a catastrophic form of epilepsy, and had her first seizure when she was just 18 months old.

“She failed over 20 anti-epileptic medications, and we were kind of out of options,” said Angie Weaver, Amelia’s mother.

After hours of research, the Weaver family found stories on how Medical Cannabis helped other children with seizures, and decided to give it a shot.

“For the last year Amelia has been going to Leafline in Eagan once a month and getting her medical cannabis,” said Angie.

The treatment worked better than any other medication they tried before.

“She went from almost 100 seizures to right now she is having mostly seizure free days,” said Angie.

Friday, Leafline Labs opened a new Dispensary in Hibbing, so the Weaver family, and others who use medical cannabis, will no longer have to travel to get the treatment they need.  Co-founder of Leafline Labs, Dr. Gary Starr believes the community could benefit from learning more about the effectiveness of Medical Cannabis.

“It’s just now that not only patients but the physicians that treat them are learning about the truth about this medicine,” said Dr. Gary Starr, Co-founder of Leafline Labs.

The Weaver family has seen the positive effects of Medicinal Cannabis first hand, and Amelia’s mother, Angie Weaver, believes it has changed their lives.

“When Amelia is seizing 100 times a day, that’s the whole day,” Angie said. “You can’t leave the house everything you do she’s seizing, and to have days without seizures is life changing. Going to the grocery store is a win for us, and being able to have a life without seizures all day long, is incredible.”
