Thousands Turn Out for Blueberry Art Festival in Ely

Festival Goers Enjoy Art, Food, and Desserts

Around 300 vendors in white tents and 25 food booths formed lines in Whiteside Park in Ely, for the 36th annual Blueberry Art Festival.

“This is traditionally the blueberry picking season in Ely, and they wanted also an art festival so they kind of combined it as blueberry Art,” said Cherie Sonsalla, the Executive Director of the Ely Chamber of commerce.

Where artists sold handmade and original items like photography, painting, and metal art.

Along with live music, and art, festival goers also enjoyed food, desserts and drinks.

“People come back home, that grew up here, so I run in to people I haven’t seen in a long time, and meet new friends, yeah, it’s a good time,” said Gerry Danzl, a festival goer.

But it’s not just the festival that draws people there.  Many say the location of Ely, surrounded by beautiful trees and close to the boundary waters, is a big reason why they choose to attend each year.

“People love to visits up here anyway so they combine the weekend with the fest also with going out and playing in the water, and taking hikes and different things,” said Sonsalla.
