New Hermantown High School Nears Completion

A first official look inside the building

The old Hermantown High School was turned into the middle school and there is now a brand new High School facility.

Step inside this new school, and you’ll find an auditorium and music suite, designed by the same people who designed the sound systems in the new Vikings stadium.

The building also has new entrances and bus corridors. The upgraded cafeteria will serve up a variety of tasty and healthy foods for students.

This expansion has been in the works for a very long time.

Kerry Juntunen, the Superintendent, said “It’s exciting and also frightening because we have been working on this for so long. The excitement is building in the community and we can’t wait for our students to experience this facility.”

The school was built to feel like a college campus. School leaders hope the modern layout will prepare students even better for the next step.

Juntunen said, “They’ll be excited to see the new spaces and see how we will use those spaces will be even cooler. They’ll understand the collaborative nature of everything to experience how it is to be a great 21st century learner.”

The school is already attracting students from surrounding areas as well.

There are now around 400 open enrolled students wanting to get into the Hermantown district.

Workers have been building the new school for two years now.

Dan Nelson, the Project Manager, said “It’s exciting to watch it come together. It’s been a long haul and we are down to the last couple weeks and the owners are really excited as well.”

The building will be done within the next two weeks and students will start classes here on September 6th.
