Minnesota Power Responds to Outages After Latest Severe Storms

Another round of severe weather rocked the Northland

Minnesota Power line crews are responding to outages throughout the company’s service territory after severe storms hit early Thursday morning.

About 4,400 customers are without power, the hardest hit areas are near Menahga, East Gull Lake, Nisswa, and Round Lake, affecting approximately 4,200 customers. All available resources have been dispatched to the area to respond to downed power lines and trees. Crews estimate that more than 20 power poles will need to be replaced in the area.

Near Duluth, about 500 customers were without power in the Pine Lake and Saginaw areas until around 10 a.m., when crews responding to several reports restored power.

Scattered outages hit the Cloquet area, at least 122 customers in Barnum are without power. Crews are working in the area; more will respond once crews are finished in Duluth.

Customers in Menahga and East Gull Lake/Nisswa areas may experience a multi-day outage based on the damage assessment.

Customers are strongly warned to stay away from downed power lines and to expect that the lines are energized. Energized lines pose an extreme hazard. Keep pets and children away from those area.
