Duluth City Seeking Help In Storm Clean Up

Council Voting To Bring In Private Contractor

It’s been weeks since a storm tore through the city of Duluth and piles of debris continue to cover sidewalks. With city crews working full time to keep up with the clean up Duluth’s small window for other city projects is quickly closing.

The city of Duluth is seeking alternative solutions to the storm clean up.

“Mayor Larson has proposed that we contract with private contractors to take on a bigger role in the task of cleaning the debris.”

But this process that requires careful consideration.

“With any sort of large public contact it will be bid out, and we’ll see who’s interested and who comes in at what cost which is what we always do to make sure we get a good price for the tax payers.”

While many people in Duluth find the plies annoying the other pressing needs of the city must be met as well.

“Well I think there’s obviously city needs that probably need attention. So somebody needs to be doing those things as well, but if there is this work that needs to be done as well, obviously bringing in outside contractors is a money thing”

The decision will be made during a special city council meeting Thursday which will hopefully give people a better estimate as to when the debris will be cleared but until then the waiting game continues.

“We will get around to everybody, we just need people to hang tight and we will get your yard cleaned up as soon as we can.”

Once an outside contractor has been chosen city crews will be able to return to jobs like street and park maintenance but until then will continue to work tirelessly.
