Woman Plans To Run 310 Miles On Superior Hiking Trail

The Trip Is Meant to Symbolize Adventure and Resilience

A Duluth woman is taking on a major challenge on the Superior Hiking trail this month, with a goal of running 310 miles in 9 days.

St. Scholastica Instructor Shawna Weaver says her goal is meant to be a symbol of resilience and adventure.

Weaver had a surgery on her spinal cord when she was younger due to sports injuries and was told it be difficult to do any type of long-distance running in the future.

“I wasn’t OK with that,” said Weaver. “I wasn’t willing to accept a life of not doing the activities I loved as someone whose always been outside running around.”

Step-by-step Weaver built a new outcome and a large goal. A challenge even the most experienced runners haven’t yet completed by running the entire distance of the trail in just about a week. Weaver is planning 30-40 mile runs each day of the trip, and will be camping along the trail.

Her journey begins later this month, for more information click here.
