Dayton: No Special Legislative Sessions
Multi Million Dollar Projects On Hold
Governor Mark Dayton announced Thursday that he will not call a special legislative session to pass tax breaks and millions of dollars in statewide construction projects. This means projects in and around Duluth will have to wait at least a year in uncertainty.
Dayton had been meeting with legislators for months after the legislative session that ended without an agreement.
The city of Duluth, schools and businesses were hoping for a bonding bill that would have helped fund a number of multi-million dollar construction projects in the area
Some of the projects include 8 million dollars for repairs on the Glensheen Mansion, 1.9 million dollars for the Lake Superior Zoo’s mini Master plan, and 8 million dollars to help build the Arrowhead Health Regional Wellness Center in Hermantown
“We were looking for our steam district conversion plants, and with that the rebuilding of superior street. So those are going to be deferred for another year now, maybe more, and we’ll have to wait and see what 2017 brings,” said Dave Montgomery
.The city has been working on the steam plant conversion project for the last 5 years. In the studio I’m Lena Takada KQDS FOX 21.
