Concert Held in Honor of Local Artist Who Passed Away

Mick Jackson Played Music in Duluth for 40 Years

Mick Jackson had been in Duluth’s music scene for Decades, and played the keyboard for many bands.

“Going back to the early 70’s, playing in bands back then like Sounds Incorporated,” remembers Tracy Lundeen, from Lundeen Productions.

“We played everything from bluegrass to punk rock to jazz he was very versatile, I used to call him Mr. Velveeta because he went with everything,” said Tom Borgren, Mick Jackson’s, former band mate.

He touched the hearts of people who heard him play

“I loved hearing him play, that was my favorite thing to do. Go to chester bowl, music in the park, and watch my dad play,” said Mick’s son, Michael Jackson.

After Mick was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, his friends and loved ones planned a concert to benefit his family, hoping he would live long enough to play in it himself

But Mick lost his battle to cancer on July 24th.

Dozens of bands volunteered to play in the concert, and hundreds of people turned out in honor of the beloved musician.

But he wasn’t just musically talented. People who knew Mic say he put a smile on the face of everyone he met

“He’d always say to you, the coolest thing about me is having you for a friend,” said Lundeen.

Many of his friends and family members say Mic was good at making people laugh and had a kind heart

“He really cared about everybody he put other people first, and that’s how I think anyone, including myself, and my family, and friends, would describe my dad,” said Michael.

So the big turn out to the concert, came as no surprise

“I think my dad’s passion for people and his passion for music, I think put together this is the perfect way to celebrate my dad and who he was,” said Michael.
