Superior Family Receives Helping Hand

The Home Depot stepped up to provide home improvements

A family in Superior received a much needed helping hand today.

Volunteers from The Home Depot teamed up with Western Lake Superior Habitat for Humanity to make some home improvements for the McKay family.

James McKay, an Army National Guard Veteran, and his wife Jessica, recently found out their 2–year–old daughter has stage four cancer.

The effort by The Home Depot is a way to provide a nicer space for the family to enjoy together.

“It’s one of The Home Depot’s core values to give back,” said Team Depot captain Gena Triefenbach. “Over 35,000 of our associates are veterans or active duty military, so it means a lot to do this. I’m really thankful we can be here and help out.”

Volunteers helped pave a new patio, install a flag pole, replace window coverings and even painted the interior of the home.

“It’s incredible,” said James McKay, “something I couldn’t have done on my own. It’s really nice that they’re coming up here and doing everything.”

The Home Depot foundation provided a $3,500 dollar grant to cover the materials used to improve the home.
