Locals Fundraise For Protesters in North Dakota

Local Portester Also Arrested

The arrests at yesterday’s standing rock camp hits close to home as a local Duluthian was one of those people put into handcuffs and taken to jail.

I talked to a member of the “idol no more” Northwood’s wolf alliance about the encounter.

The gentleman i talked to stated that one member of the north woods alliance was arrested and released on bail.

For those protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline being arrested is worth protecting tribal land.

Shawn Carr, a member of the Northwood’s wolf alliance says he has traveled to be part of the protests earlier this year.

He says he was there to see it firsthand just a few days after the pipeline company’s dogs attacked protestors.

But that wasn’t going to detour him from the protest.

“I was ready for whatever was going to happen. I remember thinking to myself, i wonder how bad it’s going to get or its going to be to get bit by one of these dogs, I was willing to let that happen.”

Hundreds plan to stay on tribal land during the harsh winter months. They’ll continue to protest what they believe in and their supporters here in the northland are collecting donations for them.

Shawn knows exactly what they need,

“they don’t need cloths so much but what they need is winter items, jackets, blankets, socks, long under wear, hammers, nails things like that because they are winterizing they are building some hard structures now.”

Shawn also plans on holding a fundraiser…

That will be next Saturday at the one roof building located at 12 east 4th from 4–7 p.m. spaghetti dinner will be served and a five dollar donation is encouraged.
