LED Light Concerns In Duluth
Are The Lights Too Bright?
The city of Duluth has thrived with tourism and the money it draws from those coming to visit from out of town
Some of that money is being spent on very bright four thousand kelvin led light bulbs to light the city streets and business districts.
All though its seems like a money saving idea, some are saying the lights are just too bright.
Forget watts, these days it’s all about the lums,
I took a drive tonight to see it for myself and you can see the clear difference between the LED lights compared to the current none led lights.
For that same reason, business owners and citizens of Duluth have put together a petition asking for the city to pump the breaks on adding led lights they think are just too bright,
“We as a citizens group and a business group are pushing for the city to shoot for 2,700 kelvin light which is a warm light, have the same lumens as the current ones so it still illuminates the streets in our neighborhoods but we have the warm feeling,” says Rod Raymond, Owner of JTA Restaurants.
The group is in favor of the LED lights and appreciates the city of Duluth for trying to stretch our tax dollars, but want Duluth to keep the nostalgic feeling many have come to love.
“Our streets could be warm, our streets could have that warmer feeling our neighborhoods could have that warmer feeling while still providing the lumens we want and by the way do we need to brighten up everything all the time.”
The petition and all the concerns can be found at www.change.org. We did reach out to the mayor’s office but our questions were not answered, we do know that city has stopped replacing the bulbs for the moment, those questioning the move to the 4,000 kelvin led bulbs hope to have a meeting next spring.
