Former Hayward Police Officer Killed In The Line Of Duty
Deputy Dan Glaze Fatally Shot
A Sheriff’s deputy in Wisconsin with ties to the Northland has died after being shot by a suspect.
The sheriff’s office in Rusk County says Deputy Dan Glaze was responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle Saturday night. The deputy radioed that he found the vehicle, but officials then lost contact with him.
When back up arrived, authorities found the deputy shot to death, prompting a manhunt for the suspect. The suspect was later found and taken into custody.
Deputy Glaze was an officer with the City of Hayward from 2007 to 2015.
Police Chief Joel P. Clapero released a statement Sunday:
“Dan was an extremely valuable and hardworking officer that worked relentlessly in pursing criminal activity and protecting the citizens of Hayward. Dan had a passion for police work and helping the citizens he protected and served.
The City of Hayward Police Department sends its condolences, thoughts and prayers to Dan’s wife, children, extended family and law enforcement brothers and sisters of the Rusk County Sheriffs Department. Dan will always be in our hearts and his service will never be forgotten. It is a sad day when one person’s evil actions can cause a tragedy such as this and alter the course of so many people’s lives. Thank you to all law enforcement agencies that assisted in taking the suspect into custody.”
