Hayward Remembers Fallen Officer Dan Glaze

Glaze was shot to death Saturday near Ladysmith

Bulldog, father and friend are just a few of the words used to describe fallen officer Dan Glaze.

Glaze was shot to death Saturday near Ladysmith after responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle.

The 33–year–old commuted from Rusk County, a town an hour away, to Hayward for eight years.

Bill Swintkowski, the Hayward Mayor, said “A person like Dan never stood out because that wasn’t his personality. He was a quiet and withdrawn type person until you got in trouble, then he was a little more outstanding.”

When news of his death was first announced it came as a shock for many.

Saturday night, Swintkowski got a text message he’ll never forget.

Swintkowski said, “I had to read it 5 times and then I called him and said you have to be kidding me and he said sorry but I’m not.”

Those who knew him best want glaze to be remembered as a family man.

Glaze and his wife just had their third child and close friends describe him as a great father to their young children.

His last day with the Hayward Police Department was March of 2015, before he joined the Rusk County Sheriff’s Department.
