St. Louis County Continues Searching for Foster Parents
An informational meeting will be held on Nov. 17
On any given day in St. Louis County, an average of 700 children are in out-of home-placements, resulting in a constant need for temporary foster homes.
With the need so high, St. Louis County social workers will be hosting an open house and information session for those who are interested in becoming foster parents.
The meeting will be held on Thursday, November 17, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Government Services Center at 320 West 2nd Street in Duluth.
Foster home licensors will be available to meet one-on-one with people to answer question about foster care requirements and options.
There will be no formal presentation, so individuals may stay for any length of time that fits their schedule.
The number of children in out-of-home placements has been on the rise in recent years. The complexity of their situations are often due to parents’ drug addictions and/or mental illness, and has resulted in many having to remain in foster care for longer periods before they can be safely reunited with their families.
Anyone over the age of 21 can serve as a foster parent, and marital status, income level, culture, or religion does not matter.
