Mayor Bruce Hagen Seeks an Earlier Retirement

Looks to shift retirement date now to November 22

Superior Mayor, Bruce Hagen, has requested to move his retirement date from April 30, 2017 to November 22, 2016.

Hagen has reached out to Council President, Dan Olson; and the Common council to create a smooth transition for the succeeding Mayor, as well as the City of Superior.

To have an election for Mayor in Spring of 2017, Hagen’s resignation would need to happen before November 30. This would allow candidates interested, to take out nomination papers as early as December 1.

Upon his resignation, Hagen would serve as Interim Mayor from the end of November through April 17, 2017. The succeeding Mayor would be sworn in on April 18, 2017, allowing them to serve two years before having to run for re-election, if desired.

The move would potentially save the city over $30,000 and allow for an earlier special election.

A Special Meeting of the Common Council is scheduled for Tuesday, November 22 at 6:30 p.m.
