Hermantown Officials Honor a Veteran of the Year

Hermantown Elementary Honons Veterans

Children at Hermantown Elementary had the chance to meet an American hero today.

Colonel Penny Dieryck was on hand to talk to the kids about her time in the service, where she served for 35 years in the Minnesota Air National Guard.

She retired in January of this year after serving two tours in Iraq.

Dieryck said, “The younger we can remind them, the better off we are, why they have their freedom, what our country means to us, and they’re the we will have ten years from now.”

Dieryck was named woman veteran of the year by the Minnesota Women’s Veteran Initiative.
