Federal Appeals Court Blocks Dassey’s Release

WI Attorney General filed an emergency motion on Wednesday

Federal appeals court blocks release of Wisconsin inmate, Brendan Dassey.

Fox 11, WLUK, in Green Bay is reporting that the federal appeals court has granted the state’s motion to keep Dassey in prison while an appeal of the decision overturning his conviction for the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach is appealed.

In a two-page order, the appeals court says the state’s motion is granted.

On Monday, federal Magistrate Judge William Duffin ordered Dassey be granted supervised release from prison as he waits for the appeals process.

A motion was also filed by the state late Tuesday to block Dassey’s release, but it was denied by Duffin Wednesday morning.

The state then asked the 7th Circuit Court of appeals to put the release on hold, which was granted on Thursday morning by a three-judge panel, pending the resolution of the appeal.

Dassey was convicted in 2007 for his role in helping his uncle, Steven Avery, help rape, murder, and mutilate photographer Teresa Halbach, and was sentenced to life in prison.
