Proctor Cheerleaders Head to Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

The squad heads out this weekend for New York City to cheer in the parade.

The Proctor Cheerleading squad is getting ready to head out to New York City to dance and cheer in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.

The group was invited to the parad after they won a competition last year.

“I’m like unbelievably proud of them. I think it’s a great opportunity. I’m so glad we were able to make it happen. It’s very expensive but they’ve worked so hard to fundraise and they’ve given me the dedication and they’ve been working their hearts out,” said Justine Deutschlander, cheer coach.

The group will practice nearly four to six hours a day for the parade, but then they will also enjoy experiences like seeing the Statue of Liberty and Empire State building.

“It’s always been like an idea for us but like we never thought it was going to come true, so when coach told us, it was kind of like a dream come true for a lot of the returning girls,” said Kaitlyn Mercier, cheer captain.

The cheerleaders received donations from the school board, local businesses, and also held fundraisers to afford the trip.
