High-speed chase ends in officer involved shooting in Eveleth

Suspect had felony warrant

A high-speed chase from Virginia to Eveleth ended with a St. Louis County Sheriff’s deputy shooting a suspect early this morning.

It all started when the Virginia Police Department spotted a motorist on Highway 53 and Highway 169, whom had an existing warrant for felon in possession of a firearm.

The subject then fled to Eveleth and various law enforcement agencies pursued the suspect in a vehicle chase.

The perpetrator drove off the road East of Eveleth where he then fled. After that, the deputy shot the suspect. The suspect then came out of the woods and surrendered.

A firearm was recovered at the scene. The suspect was airlifted to a Duluth hospital and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

An investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
