Center City Housing and One Roof Community House team up to buy Gateway Tower Apartments

Center City Housing Corporation and One Roof Community Housing have bought the Gateway Tower apartments in Duluth and will begin renovations immediately.

Total cost of the project is around $18.5 million.

“I can describe it as One Roof does the heavy lifting on the front end in other words they’re more involved in the rehab and once the building is complete they’ll step back and we’ll take over the ownership and operation of the building,” said Rick Klun, Center City Housing executive director.

Gateway houses nearly 150 low income residents. They can expect to see a total complete makeover of the building with everything from new windows to plumbing and heating system.

“It’s just a tired building. It was built over 40 years ago and it’s served its purpose. It’s been a good affordable housing for the folks that have lived here, but things are starting to wear out, things are starting to wear thin,” said Jeff Corey, One Roof Community Housing executive director.

Renovations are set to be complete sometime in the fall of 2017. One Roof and Center City have partnered together before. They previously worked on the Steve O’Neil apartments together.
