Chimneys should be inspected annually
Experts say that chimneys should be inspected annually by a certified professional
DULUTH, Minn. –
Experts say that chimneys should be inspected at least once a year or every fifty fires.
The inspection should be done by a certified chimney sweep who can tell whether or not the chimney is safe.
“If it smokes back on you, if you notice some nasty smells inside the house, creosote doesn’t smell good. The smokier the fires is what causes the creosote so you’re going to want to have the chimney looked at if you’re smelling that kind of stuff,” said Tim Suttie of Black Goose Chimney and Duct.
Those at Black Goose also said that the best time of year to get the chimney inspected is late summer and early fall before that first fire of the season.
