Ice Rinks Being Flooded

Rinks at Lafayette, Merritt, and Norton parks being flooded

DULUTH, Minn.

Ice rinks are being flooded across the city of Duluth.

Crews are now working to flood outdoor rinks At Lafayette, Merritt, And Norton Parks.

Rinks will continue to be flooded throughout the week and the city hopes to have skating ice at some parks by the weekend.

Work will begin next week to flood the rink at Bayfront Park.

“Ice skating is a life sport. It’s not unlike skiing or some of these other things that we can do in the Northland here during the winter and every kid should learn how to skate,” says Robert Dunsmore, parks lead worker for the City of Duluth.

“Having rinks, outdoor rinks, that’s where kids play, right? They want to be outside and we should make them go outside in a way just to get some exercise.”

Ice will continue to be added to the rinks over the winter, even after skating begins.

Crews say the more ice is made, the longer skating can last.
