The Vinyl Cave announces it’s closing its doors
SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Vinyl Cave first opened its doors back in 2008 and has since then been symbol of northern Minnesota and Wisconsin’s long running contributions to the world of music.
Owners Tom Uterberger and Tom Johnson have been around music their entire lives and have always had a passion for vinyl records and vintage stereo equipment. Now due to the massive time commitment and fierce online competition, both owners are looking to step away from the business, and hopefully find a solo buyer for the more than 10,000 records still in the cave’s inventory.
Co-Owner Tom Unterberger says, “There’s just certain things that sell too well. People that have them know they can sell them themselves on eBay, rather than bringing them into us. It just makes the acquisition of inventory a little tougher.”
Long time friend and regular customer Mike Chase adds, “(It’s) rather sad. The friendships will go on, the collections will go on, but it won’t have that home base to come back to here to experience the ambiance of the collection in the Vinyl Cave.”
So for those looking for one more chance to flip through the nearly endless stacks of records or check out the impressive history of Northland music displayed on the wall the Vinyl Cave is open from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM weekdays and 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Saturdays, but the needle stops December 31st.
