Coldest Morning Since January 17th
The coldest temperatures in 11 months moved through the Northland overnight and held a strong hold through the morning and afternoon.
Temperatures plunged well below zero with the coldest overnight low temperatures in Embarrass at -38, Cotton at -35, Eiffie and -34, and Pine River at -33. It was -21 at the Duluth International Airport, the coldest since January 17th where it also hit -21 for the overnight low temperature.
Wind Chills were even worse with Grand Rapids at -45, Palmers at -42 and Ely, Duluth, and Grand Marais at -41 degree wind chills.
The cold air will hold its grasp for just one more night before temperatures warm to above average. Winds have shifted out of the southwest this afternoon which will allow the retreat of the cold air mass in place. Tonight temperatures will drop to around -10 degrees by midnight, but then will slowly warm into day break to above 0 degrees.
