Monday Was Postal Service’s Busiest Day of the Year
Lines at the West Michigan Street post office in Duluth were long the whole day
DULUTH, Minn. – With Christmas less than a week away, people are trying to get their last minute packages in the mail. The postal service says Monday was their busiest shipping day of the year.
Lines at the post office on West Michigan Street were nearly out the door all day.
Almost every person in line had multiple boxes and cards to get in the mail before the postal service’s deadline of 3 p.m. on Wednesday for priority shipping.
“I’m a procrastinator,” said AJ Axtell, standing in line with a stack of boxes. “I have 16-month-old twins, so getting here was an accomplishment. I’m proud.”
“Go, go, go, go, go, go, go,” said Paul Newton, a USPS mail carrier, who was out since 6 a.m. picking up and delivering mail. “You don’t stop until you get home.”
The postal service tells us they have extra staff on hand to help get through the week and make sure packages arrive before Christmas day. Thursday, December 22 is expected to be the busiest delivery day of the year.
