St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church is Torn Down
The Church is Around 100 Years Old
DULUTH, Minn.- The St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church which closed in 2015, was demolished today
The Duluth Diocese made a decision in 2012 to merge St. Elizabeth Catholic church in Gary New Duluth and St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Morgan Park with St. James Catholic Church in West Duluth back in 2012. It was a move to address a shortage of priests and demographic changes. But it’s still an emotional day for members who had attended the church for years.
“It wasn’t just a building, it was a place to go to be quiet and you know, talk to god and be a part of that community of faith that lived around here,” says Julie Burns, a member of the Church.
The historic church was around a century old.
