Planned Parenthood Protests Spread to Duluth

It's a Conversation Taking Place Nation Wide

DULUTH, Minn. – Pro Life people across the nation took a stand at more than 130 Planned Parenthoods across the Nation, calling for legislators to de-fund the women’s health care provider, And here in the Northland, dozens of people turned out for the cause, holding signs denouncing planned parenthood and abortions, in front of the Duluth planned parenthood clinic.

“It’s just to show our support for life, it’s as simple as that,” said Dianne Mlinar, who is Pro-Life.

But pro-lifers weren’t the only ones who turned out.

A dueling rally in defense of the Women’s health care clinic also drew a crowd in front of the clinic.

“I have been a poor single college student, and needed Planned Parenthood services, and they were there for me,” said Kelly MacLeod, who is Pro-Choice.

Many pro life people believe life starts at conception, and abortion means taking away an innocent life, while those who identify as pro-choice, believe in a woman’s right to make decisions for her own body.

Some pro-life people believe stopping federal funding to an organization that provides abortions could help lower the number of abortions that occur each year, but supporters of Planned Parenthood believe the organization is vital to the health of the community.

“I think both sides can agree that female cancer is not a good thing, sexually transmitted diseases are not a good thing, and planned parenthood supports the fight against both of those,” said Jim Tuttle, who is Pro-Choice.

Though the clash of ideologies was peaceful, opponents on both sides of the issue took a strong stand on their beliefs.
