Man Dies in Lakeside House Fire
Firefighters Remained on Scene for Four Hours
DULUTH, Minn. – Tuesday morning a deadly fire broke out in the Lakeside neighborhood of Duluth.
At midnight, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a report of a fully involved structure fire at 4516 Cooke Street.
When crews arrived on scene they reported a person was possibly still inside.
Crews immediately started to attack the fire and search for anyone who may be inside the burning home.
According to the fire department, the fire was deep seated and traveled throughout the home causing very extensive fire and smoke damage.
Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera and found an unconscious person in the home.
Firefighters performed life saving procedures, but the man died from the effects of the fire.
The fire was eventually brought under control and overhaul efforts were extensive as hidden fire in voids and spaces were in many places.
Twenty one firefighters responded to this fire and remained on the scene for almost four hours.
An ambulance was called to assist in life saving efforts and Duluth Police remained on the scene to assist.
Initial damage estimates are $150,000 for the structure and contents.
There were no firefighter injuries.
The fire investigation is ongoing.
