City Council Working on Renovations for Hibbing Memorial Building

HIBBING, Minn.- The Hibbing Memorial Building has been a space for the community since it was first built in the 1920’s.  And with a senior center, hockey rink, curling club, and a space for veterans, the Memorial Building continues to be an important asset for the Iron Range.

“You’ll never see another building like this built in a community of this size again,” said Peter Hyduke, the Director of City Services for the City of Hibbing.

The Hibbing Memorial Building has been a vital venue for the iron range for almost a hundred years, but now, city officials are looking for ways to bring it into the next century.

“Over the last 3 years or so we’ve put in almost 2 and a half million dollars into that building,” said Tom Dicklich, the City Administrator for Hibbing. “We have upgraded the mechanical, in the curling club which is attached, and we’ve updated the mechanical and ventilation in the actual memorial building portion where the events are taking place.”

The City of Hibbing has been discussing renovation plans for the building and the locker rooms in the building for a few years now.

And though specific details still need to be sorted out, the city is working with Architect to figure out what would be best for the building, and hopefully get some work done before the fall.

“The council is just kind of looking at all the options, they just want to make sure they have all of them before they make a decision,” said Dicklich.
