Duluthians Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day Running and Drinking Beer
It's the Time of Year for the Shamrock Pub Shuffle
DULUTH, Minn.- Temperatures below freezing, and wind chills in the single digits didn’t stop hundreds of Duluthians from celebrating St. Patricks day at the Shamrock Pub Shuffle.
“It was a beautiful day actually, just to be together with our friends, and with the lake, and hearing the open water splash against the rocks,” said Stephanie Francis, a runner.
Runners start at Leif Erickson Park, and run to Carmody Irish Pub for a beer, continue on to Canal Park Brewery for another cold one, and end at Dubh linn Irish Pub for good food and more beer.
“These people run all day, they get here mid afternoon, dehydrated and exhausted and they need food and water and beer and it’s great,” said Galen Maxim, a bartender at Dubh Linn.
But it’s not just about having drinks and some fun. Part of the proceeds go to the Miracle League in Duluth.
Many of the runners we talked with believe the secret to the popularity of the event, lies in the culture of the Northland, and the hearty people who can brave the cold for a good time
“I think Duluth is a town that’s really into fitness, and really into having a good time and going out so I think this is an event that hits both of those perfectly,” said Maxim.
