Gordy’s Hosts Charity Fundraiser Before Opening

Restaurant Offers Special Meal to Customers Who Bid the Highest on Local Charities

CLOQUET, Minn. – Gordy’s Hi-Hat in Cloquet opens for the season tomorrrow.

The restaurant hosted a fundraiser tonight, allowing the highest bidders to enjoy a private party at the famous diner, all while giving to charity.

The night before they open for their 47th season, the grills were frying up burgers, fries, and onion rings at Gordy’s.

But only the customers who bid the most on one of two charities could chow down on this special meal.

“It’s just a fun way to give back to the community,” says Sever Lundquist, Gordy’s grandson. “These are some charities that we’re very passionate about and we just wanted to give back any way we could because they’ve affected our lives and everybody else in the community.”

All proceeds from the event went to the two charities. Project Joy provides backpacks filled with food for kids who need it on weekends, and Young Life Organization offers youth ministries and after school programs.

“I think it brings hope and encouragement and a lot of relationships and friendships among students in the area,” says Joanna Rovnik, who donated to Young Life Organization.

If you weren’t one of the high bidders, you don’t have long to wait because Gordy’s is officially open for the season on Wednesday morning.

Also, Gordy himself will be back this year. It was previously reported that he was retired but, according to his grandson, Gordy will be seen this summer at the family restaurant.
