New Terminal in Twin Ports will Increase Imports and Exports

New Facility Will Allow Imports and Exports from Atlantic, Pacific, and Gulf Coasts

DULUTH, Minn. – A new intermodal container ramp is now open in Duluth. The new terminal is the first of its kind in the Twin Ports.

The facility makes it possible to transfer containers between rail cars and trucks, and connects the Twin Ports region with imports and exports to and from the Pacific, Atlantic, and Gulf coasts through the Canadian National (CN) railway.

The terminal hopes to reduce operating costs for regional businesses by allowing them to bypass intermodal ramps in congested urban areas.

“Our goal here is to do what we can to make it easier for business in the region to succeed, whether that’s an importer or that’s an exporter,” says Jon Lamb, President of Lake Superior Warehousing. “So, if you’re a farmer in North Dakota or Northern Minnesota, and you want to get your product to market, we can help figure out a solution to make that more cost effective and easier for you.”

“You might have an exporter that wants to not only access Asia, but they may want to access South America. There are other ramps that certainly don’t have the ability to go to all those directions directly, and we have a partner and one railroad that can go to all those directions.”

The new facility is operated by the Duluth Seaway Port Authority and Lake Superior Warehousing.
