Uber, Lyft Excited to Start Duluth Operations

Ride Sharing Services were Recently Approved by City Council

DULUTH, Minn. – While local cab companies aren’t happy, the Duluth City Council passed an ordinance Monday, allowing ride share companies like Uber and Lyft to operate in the city.

Meanwhile, Uber and Lyft are excited to enter the Duluth market.

In a statement to FOX 21, an Uber spokesperson said “We’re pleased that the Duluth city council passed regulations that will allow Uber to serve riders and drivers across the community. Our focus turns now to kickstarting the operational process to get Uber up and running in Duluth, which includes working with the city to apply for a permit and reaching out to potential drivers and helping them get started on the onboarding process.”

Lyft expressed a similar sentiment, saying via an emailed statement “We thank the city of duluth for their support of bringing services like lyft to the area. We look forward to continuing to work with the city and hope to be able bring lyft’s safe, affordable, and convenient services to the area soon.”

Meanwhile, Superior is looking into how rides to that city will be affected.  However, an answer won’t come until after the city’s Mayoral election.  At this time there is no plan to bring ridesharing services to Superior.
