Road Sand Collection Sites Set Up Around Duluth

Duluth residents are urged to use these sites to keep from washing into streams and Lake Superior

DULUTH, Minn. – ‘Tis the season for spring cleaning, and the City of Duluth is asking residents to dispose of excess road salt, sand, or asphalt chunks from sidewalks, curbs, and boulevards, at any of the four Road Sand Collection Sites set up around Duluth.

Street sweepers are currently working to collect and remove road sand from the streets as quickly as possible. Additional help from citizens is needed before the spring rains roll through and the sand washes into our streams, damaging trout habitat.

Four collection sites have been set up around the city. Large, green, roll off dumpsters will be marked with a sign and are to be used for only road sand, salt, or asphalt.

Sites will be ready Friday afternoon at the following locations:

  • Chester Bowl Park – near the playground
  • Duluth Heights Community Club Parking Lot
  • Piedmont Community Club – near the hockey rink
  • Wheeler Field in West Duluth – in the back
