UMD Hosts Shark Tank Competition
Students present their business ideas to local leaders
DULUTH, Minn. – UMD students got the chance to show off their business skills in a Shark Tank style competition on Monday.
Six presenters showed off their business ideas to their peers, as well as local business leaders. Each presenter would give their business pitch, and took questions from the panel and the audience. The competition was modeled after the television show, Shark Tank.
“There aren’t really a lot of entrepreneurial competitions around here,” event organizer, Mitch Brown said. “There’s a couple big ones toward the cities, but up here there aren’t any prominent ones. So we wanted to start a foundation here and hopefully get something like this going forward.”
The winner of the competition took home $1,500 to put towards their business. This is the second year the event has taken place.
