DTA Pick Up and Drop Off Changing During Michigan Street Construction
Transportation Center to Not Be Used for 60 Days
DULUTH, Minn.-Beginning today, the Duluth Transit Authority will be using their old pickup routes for 60 days rather than their newer transportation center, as construction continues on Michigan Street.
All DTA buses will be detoured to the former Superior Street and Holiday Center bus stops, along with the East Transit Center.
The Duluth Police Department and Jefferson Lines service will continue to run out of the Duluth Transit Center.
No matter what the case, it may cause some confusion among bus riders.
Dennis Jensen, general manager of the DTA, said he said people will find it most difficult to figure out which side of the street to stand on for pick-up.
“The westbound buses load on the upper side of Superior Street and the eastbound on the lower side,” he said.
Hourly and contract parking on the upper levels of the Duluth Transit Center will also be closed during this time, as they will be relocated to another location on Third Avenue West.
The construction on Michigan Street involves a lot of utility work. Minnesota Power and the city of Duluth will work together to replace electrical ducts, gas lines, and water mains.
It’s the second year for the construction, which should end by July 1.
