Superior Councilors Approves Application Process For Vacant Council Seat
City Council Will Chose New Councilor During June 6th Meeting
Superior, Wis. – Superior city councilors convened Tuesday to move forward with the resignation of councilor Graham Garfield who is facing four charges of domestic abuse.
Councilors officially accepted Garfield’s resignation Tuesday night. They also made a decision on what to do with the vacant council seat.
In a vote across the board councilors chose to appoint someone to Garfield’s old seat. The council will be accepting applications from anyone in Superior interested in the position. The application needs to come with 20 signatures and a resume. The deadline to apply is May 31 at the city clerk’s office.
Councilors will then look over the applications and choose a new councilor at the June 6 council meeting.
“I certainly think it’s great that the city is moving on that were getting to work on the things we were all elected to do.” Superior Mayor Jim Paine said.
“If there’s more than one person that’s interested in this, I think that person should have the right in democracy to speak as well.” City Council President Dan Olson said.
Tylor Elm is the only candidate so far who has publicly said he will apply for the council seat. Elm was the previous candidate who lost the recent election against Garfield by one vote.
