Duluth Police Investigating Phone Scam Posing as Police Chief

DULUTH, Minn. – The Duluth Police Chief’s secretary received a call from a Duluth resident who was being scammed over the phone, according to the Duluth Police Department.
The report indicates that the caller was posing as Police Chief Mike Tusken and informed the person they had won $1,000,000 from Publisher’s Clearing House, but that someone had claimed their prize.
The caller informed the individual that in order to get their money back they, “Chief Tusken,” were working with New York City Detectives; Captain Steven Hellman and Michael Baker.
The victim’s significant other questioned the legitimacy of the call and asked for specific information about Duluth, the caller then hung up.
A short time later they received a call from a person posing as “Capt. Hellman” saying the “Chief” was angry about being questioned.
The caller did not ask for money, but told them to give the FedEx driver gift card when he arrived with the check.
The Duluth Police are investigating this scam, and state that the department will never call informing you of winnings form any business. Those who receive a call like this are asked to simply hang up the phone.
