Blue Star Marker Dedicated in Duluth and Sturgeon Lake

The Markers Honor the Service Men and Women of Our Country

DULUTH, Minn .- Blue Star Memorial Markers first started showing up right after World War 2, and now mark highways across the United States from the East to west coast, reminding all who see them, of the sacrifices made by the service men and women of the country.

A Blue Star Marker was placed at Thompson Hill Visitor Center this year, and Saturday, a dedication ceremony was held. Members of Organizations like Blue Star Moms, Women Veterans Initiative, and the Federated Garden Clubs of Minnesota gave remarks at the event.

“The markers are placed as a symbol for all to see, lest we forget, those who helped to keep us free,” said Carol Oeltjenbruns, the Blue Star Marker Chair for the Federated Garden Clubs of Minnesota.

Another blue star dedication ceremony was held at the General Andrews Rest Area in Sturgeon Lake.

The Blue Star on the memorial was taken from the blue star in the service flag, and is used when U.S. Troops are in harms way.
