Memorial Day Services Held at Green Wood Cemetery

Speakers Highlighted Contributions by Women in the Military

SUPERIOR, Wis.- Veterans, family members and loved ones honored fallen veterans at the Green Wood Cemetery in Superior.

The Memorial Day celebration in the cemetery is an annual event. This year the vice commander of American legions spoke at the event and highlighted the contributions made by women in the military and the roles the alliance between US and Canadian military  have played in recent wars.

“Women have died since 1911 in combat, in all the Vietnam war there was 58,000 dead, there were only 6 women killed, and as they get more and more involved in all aspects of the military, like infantry and special operations, you’re going to see those numbers increase even more,” said Eual Moore, the Vice Commander for American Legions.

Family members of veterans were encouraged to leave flowers at the cemetery.
