Jack Link’s Crew Excited for “Hometown” Show
The Screamin' Sasquatch Performs at Shows Across the Country
DULUTH, Minn. – To John Klatt, Summer is air show season. But this week, this pilot is on cloud nine.
“I feel like I’m home when I come back to Duluth,” Klatt said.
Klatt flew F–16’s for the 148th Fighter Wing out of Duluth for 14 years. Now he flies the Jack Link’s Screamin’ Sasquatch, a one of a kind 1929 walk out taper wing.
“We like to say it’s all beefed up because we put an extra structure on it, and we have a CJ–610 jet engine which makes it the most unique air show plane on the planet today,” said Klatt.
Klatt also flies Jack Links’ Xtra 300–L and was nice enough to offer me a ride. Once over Lake Superior, Klatt decided, it was time for aerobatics.
“We did a maneuver we call the ‘Teriyaki Twist’ where we go straight up and came back backwards,” said Klatt.
“The ‘Szechuan Centrifuge’, where we twist and roll and get about 10 different outside rolls on a parabolic line.”
Beef jerky puns aside the Duluth Air and Aviation Expo means as much to Minong, Wis. based Jack Link’s as it does to Klatt.
“It’s an outstanding opportunity for Jack Link’s to be part of the Northland, part of the air show and for people to realize how much Jack Link’s does for the local community, employing literally hundreds of people in the Northland,” said Klatt.
Klatt and crew fly Saturday and Sunday and hope to helps fans feed their wild side.
